Evaluation of rockburst energy capacity for the design of rock support systems for different tunnel geometries at El Teniente copper mine

Rockburst events have been a serious problem for many years in mines worldwide, and particular at El Teniente mine Chile. is the largest copper world, located Andes Cordillera where high stress levels are present due to intensing mining activity addition complex geology. Consequently, study management of rockburst threat necessary. In this work, case Diablo Regimiento (DR) within studied. The energy capacity dynamic support systems determined different tunnel geometries based on two kinetic methodologies, using data from DR. Initially, potential by means analysis around through boundary elements method. first methodology yielding zone (YZ) estimated each excavation geometry finite element method FEM. second involves definition determination critical strain (SE) FEM numerical analysis. both cases, peak particle velocity PPV scaling law, which subsequently adjusted amplification effects. According results, knowing working applied DR mine, it was found that values rock supports were better YZ-PPV approach than SE approach.
